The Philadelphia Activities Fund is a Pennsylvania nonprofit, section 501(c)(3) charitable entity established by City Ordinance to foster and promote educational values of sportsmanship, the arts, and health to individuals in the City of Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Activities Fund provides funding to support, enhance and serve community and recreation organizations and activities within the City of Philadelphia (including, without limitation, sports, dance, arts and health) and encouraging and increasing opportunities for involvement, instruction and participation in activities by diverse constituencies.

For the PAF24 Grant Cycle, all applications must be submitted in the name of the nonprofit or not for profit organization, association, program or initiative seeking grant funding and must have been issued an EIN by the IRS prior to applying for a grant. The organization and/or association does not need to be incorporated nor have been determined to be a section 501(3)(c) charitable organization. 


 

Grant Cycle Timeline:

The PAF24 Grant Cycle runs from April 15th, 2024 - March 31, 2025.

The PAF24 Grant Cycle application period is April 15, 2024 - May 31, 2024.

Funds from PAF24 must be spent on or before March 31st, 2025, at which time an IDF report is due.


 

The applicant must be deemed eligible for grant funding before applying. Eligibility requirements include:

  • The grant applicant must be operating as an organization, program, association, and/or initiative
  • The grant applicant must be operating on a nonprofit or not for profit basis
  • The grant applicant must be able to provide an EIN
  • The grant applicant’s organization, program, association, and/or initiative must be located in the City of Philadelphia and the provided programs and/or activities must benefit City residents
  • The grant applicant must not be a federal, state, or local government entity or subdivision thereof


 

Funding decisions shall be based on need and shall be provided for specific activities or purchases. Capital costs and direct staff costs are not eligible expenses. 

Fund applicants are required to submit a written budget. No entity may receive more than $9,000 from the Fund in any fiscal year. Applicants may apply for funding in multiple districts, but may not exceed $9,000 in total across all districts.

All grant awards are made at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Activities Fund upon a finding that the awarded grant advances the Fund’s charitable purposes and all eligibility criteria for an Activities Fund grant award have been met. Funding decisions of the Board of Directors shall include consideration of the recommendation of the district council member in which the applicant has applied.
